“Semantics” was the second song I ever wrote, and it came from remembering the beginning of a love story before it had a name.

I wrote this about how me and my ex first started, when we were still in that in-between space where the feelings were obvious, the chemistry was real, but neither of us was fully calling it what it was yet. That stage where you’re more than friends, not quite saying “love” out loud, and every little moment feels like it’s trying to tell you the truth before you’re ready to say it.

That’s what “Semantics” is about.

It’s a song for anyone who’s ever had a connection that didn’t need a label to feel real. A song about late-night feelings, undeniable chemistry, mixed signals that aren’t really mixed, and the hopelessly romantic side of wanting to skip the overthinking and just admit what’s already there. The title comes from that exact frustration, when two people clearly feel something, but still get stuck debating definitions instead of just living the moment.

Underneath the playful tone, this song is actually really nostalgic for me. It’s not just about being in love with the idea of love, it’s about remembering the stage where everything felt fresh, natural, and full of possibility. The point where friendship quietly crossed the line into something deeper, and maybe the best thing about it was that it happened before either of us had the right words for it.
